I Turned An Ugly Dress Into A Cute Shirt

Top Atlanta Blogger, Atlanta Personal Stylist, dress over skirt Street Style

The best part about being a stylist is showing my clients how to make the most of their wardrobe.  What I've found is that most of them don't have bad taste in clothes, they just struggle with seeing the potential that's in their own closet.  That's why it's my job to help them develop the ability to see their closets full potential, which gives them the kick start they need to begin creating awesome outfits.

When it comes to shopping the first question you should be asking yourself before buying an item is - How many ways can I style this piece?  If you can come up with at least 3 ways, then it's a good buy.  Take today's look for example.  This thrifted marigold dress turned lace shirt didn't have any hanger appeal, yet I knew it had the possibility of being a cute top.  Removing the underlining was a game changer.

If you're into keeping up with the latest styles and trends, then you know see-through mesh or sheer is a thing.  And while I've dabbled with this trend on a small scale (see HERE) I'm still a little hesitant about people being able to see right through my clothes.  So here's what's funny, I knew immediately that I was going to style this top without anything under it - go figure.  Now we've seen this look styled with lingerie only or jeans and a tee-shirt beneath it.  I opted to wear a distressed denim mini skirt just so that my be-hind wasn't out for all to see.

Last month I hosted another Kläzit Raid shopping party and scored this bight colored marigold blazer that gave this look all kinds of springtime vibes.  My shoes are old from ShoeDazzle, but a cute red flat or sandel (or whatever shoe you decide) will work with this look.  The icing on the cake for me was the cigar box handbag with the colorful parakeets.

Btw, the first time I wore this top, I styled it with a pair of high-waist wide-legged jeans and platform heels.  The next time I wear it, I think maybe to pair it with a dress and sneakers.  So there you have it, 3 different ways to wear this ugly dress turned cute top.  Before I close, question.... Do you have anything in your closet that you can re-purpose?  Or what's your relationship with colors?  Do you try new colors or stick with your go-to ones?  Talk to me in the comments below.

It Took Me 40 Years To Stop Being Scared To LIVE!!!

Top Atlanta blogger, Atlanta Personal Stylist, floral dress street style

Turning 40 (this past May 5th) isn't as bad as I thought it would be.  Like most kids, I thought my parents at 40 were super old and I definitely didn't want to be old.  And now that I'm officially the big four-oh, I am absolutely grateful to have made it to see this age.  At one point in my life I didn't even think I'd make it to 21.

Although I didn't have a rough or horrible childhood, growing up wasn't fun.  My parents raised me in church and that was pretty much all we did.  And when I had my first child at 17 my view point on life was bleak.  I just knew that there was no way that I'd do any good or that any good would come to me.

I did attempt college, but that didn't work out.  I attempted a style business with my sister, that didn't pan out either.  It seemed that everything I tried to do to prove to myself and the world that I wasn't a failure, failed.  Can I say my twenties was the roughest part of my life!  Here I was a single mom with only a high school education trying to make something of myself.

Being the "church girl" that I was, there was a lot of things I couldn't or wasn't suppose to do.  I grew up with a lot of "can't do's".  Don't worry, I won't bore you with all childhood woe's.  I'm just saying that not being able to do half of what my peers were doing made me dislike my life and kinda got me to a point where I was scared to even desire anything worthwhile out of life.

My barber and I were talking the other day and although I don't quite remember the exact question he asked me, my response was that I didn't really start to enjoy life until after I got married.  Without a doubt, I know God created my husband just for me.  And to think, I never wanted to get married.  Btw, check out my post where I talk about my whole no marriage vow.

I accredit my husband for reigniting my passion for life.  His view point on life is amazing.  He's one of those jump first fear later type of people.  Where as I'm a look twice before you leap type of girl.  Once I hit my thirties and I hadn't accomplished or achieved societies so call standards I was sorta bombed.  But that man of mine taught me to live again.

At this point, I now understand that I only have myself to compete against.  And that being 40 and not having it all together is perfectly okay.   One last thing I want to leave you with is........

I'm about to slay 40!!!

Thrifted Duster & Ripped Jeans + Weekend Recap

Atlanta Personal Stylist, Top Atlanta Blogger, Thrifted fashion

I'm walking into this rainy Monday morning feeling wonderful.  If you recall, I had the opportunity to speak to a group of World Natural Hair Show attendees a little bit about the joy of thrifting this past Saturday.

And not to be all braggy, however, ya girl did her thing.  If I do say so myself, I did really good.  If you know me, then you know I use to HATE public speaking and I still don't like it.  Man, I'd get so nervous, I would forget whatever it was I was suppose to say.  I remember once I even forgot my own name.  The only thing I'd do is smile really hard and my underarms would be drenched in sweat.  Talk about embarrassing...

But this weekend, I nailed it!  I was prepared, I had nicely designed handouts aaannnddd I remembered the majority of my notes without having to look at them.  Yesss!  One thing I've been working on is not saying "um" so much.  Learning to pace myself and breath helped me to avoid using "um" throughout the session.

The coolest part for me was that people were waiting in line to talk to me.  To some that might not mean much, but for me, it means progress (patting myself on the back).  Even cooler was that my homegirl Kisha came out to support.  That gesture of love meant a lot.  Thanks Kish!  And a shout-out to my mentor Keren for calling me on Friday and Saturday to give me my pep talk and a word of encouragement.  Btw... check out what I wore to the hair show.

Blah blah blah, enough of that, on to the real reason you came by today.  You want to know details on today's look.  This outfit is perfect for the type of weather we're having here in Atlanta (the type where winter and spring are playing tug-of-war with the temperature).  Just when you think the sun has the upper hand, the clouds are like naw, not today bruh.  That's why this outfit works.

This Forever 21 duster that I thrifted is heavy enough to keep me warm during the morning chill and cool enough to wear when the temp's start to rise.  I was hoping to find a similar duster on F21.com, but If you wanted to recreate this look, this duster/kimono from Boo Hoo would work just as well.  I'm going to keep saying this... if you do not have a pair of distressed jeans, your life is a mess (I kid, I kid).  But seriously, ripped jeans will change your life.

Why would I buy ripped jeans retail, when I can thrift them?  Like these H&M distressed jeans which are super cute, really comfortable and has a nice wash. I paired the look with a simple off-white top and green floral print booties from Zara (got them on sale, no longer available).  A fringe bucket bag and a cool pair of sunglasses completed this outfit.

Looking for a few nice dusters/kimono's?  Check these out ↓↓↓

What I'm Wearing To The World Natural Hair Show + I'm Teaching A Thrift Style Workshop

World Natural Hair Show, Top Atlanta blogger

Happy Fabulous Friday people!  I am so ready for this weekend.  Can you guess why?  I gave a little hint in the title of this post.  Tomorrow is THE DAY that I get to facilitate a thrifting workshop at the 21st World Natural Hair Show presented by Taliah Waajid

My style session is tomorrow from 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm in Classroom: Italian 1-2 (tickets).  I think because I'm so hype about it that I'm not even nervous (at least not yet).  I actually feel really good about the workshop tomorrow.  I still can't believe it.  This is the biggest platform I've been on so far.  And I'm so grateful that God allowed somebody to think about me for this opportunity.  All smiles as I write this post!!!!!!

You already know that my look has to be bang'n right?  And of course it has to be thrifted, duh!  I've been thinking about what to wear every since I got the call.  And after going back and forth with myself, I decided to repeat a look that I absolutely loved the first time I wore it.  The first time I wore this look was at Atlanta designer Natt Taylor's pop up shop a few weeks ago.

And to think a couple of years ago I would never be caught wearing the same thing twice. Girl what?!?!  Especially if I got photographed in a look.  No ma'am, Pam!  But baby, I'll be 40 in a few weeks and things like not repeating an outfit is cray cray!.  I'm at a place now where I don't even care anymore.  Which is why I'll be wearing this exact look tomorrow.  The only thing I'm changing is my undergarments and my hair will probably be different.

My favorite part of this look is the bright yellow ruffle skirt I picked up from vintage shop Ecologie in Kennesaw, GA (It's a bit of a drive, but it's worth it).  My skirt is thrifted, however this ASOS satin pleated midi skirt with hanky hem is super dope and so cute and you should get it.  Guys, I've said it once and I'll say it again, Zara is the real MVP when it comes to shoes.  I would suggest not waiting to get a shoe you really like, their inventory goes quick.  These white brogues are no longer available.

Well style lover's do me a fave... Send up a prayer that all goes well tomorrow and that something awesome comes from the experience.  Appreciate it and ttyl!

How To Rock In Mix Match Prints

Atlanta Personal Stylist, Top Atlanta Blogger

Mixing prints is one of my favorite all time style go-to's.  At this point, I can do it with my eyes closed.  However, it can be a little tricky to pull off if you're not careful.  But ya girl is sorta a pro at mixing prints.  Go see what I'm talking about HERE, HERE & HERE.

One to the key factors when mixing prints is to make sure the colors compliment each other.  Like in today's looks which is really simple.  Everybody knows that red, black and white go together.  I mean, anytime you see black and white paired together, the pop of color is more than likely red.

I happened upon this red striped poplin shirt from H&M while out shopping for my client.  I tell ya, being a personal stylist with a shopping addiction can't be a good thing right?  Wrong!  I didn't have to think twice about getting this top because a) it was on sale and b) it's been on my to-get list to add more printed/patterned tops to my wardrobe.  I love this shirt and have but it's almost sold out, however, Asos has a cute little red shirt that works or this short sleeved stripe shirt from Forever 21 is just as cute, especially for spring/summer temps

*Singing... If You Don't Know Me By Now.... You're not a loyal Style Kläzit fan if you don't know that black and white anything is my absolute fave.  Which is why ordering these black and white polka dot jeans from Forever 21 was a must.  The downside is that if you'r short like me (5') they will be a little on the long size and they are high waist.  I tend to shy away from wearing anything that has my mom gut on full display.  And if I had tried them on prior to shooting this look, I would have cut the hem (which I ended up doing after the fact).  I'm thinking about getting these polka dots pants, that's more my style.

Ladies and Gents, boys and girls!  If you'll focus your attention to these dope contrasting-coloured sneakers from Zara.  Y'all Zara is like my all time favorite place to shop for shoes.   If you're looking for funky and unique footwear, head to Zara.  Not only are these sneakers dope, they are comfortable and they were reasonably priced.  Another pair of Zara shoes that I'm in love with are these black kitten heel booties.  Oh, and these two-tone metallic oxfords with detachable tassels are like everything.

Anywho, I hope your Monday is off to a great start and that your week is full of style and grace.  And if you have any questions about mixing prints, ask away in the comments!

Distressed / Ripped Jeans || Outfit Inspo

Top Atlanta Blogger, Distressed Jeans Outfit

To say that I'm obsessed with distressed or ripped jeans is an understatement.  I absolutely love a cute pair of ripped jeans.  I actually have more distressed jeans than non-distressed jeans in my jeans collection.

Most of my ripped jeans, I've either distressed myself or thrifted them.  However, Forever 21 and HM have a few pair I've been eyeing for quite some time now.  In the past I thought it blasphemy to pay more than $10 for a pair of jeans with rips in them.  I mean come on, that money could be better spent on a pair of shoes.  But!  Time (and my growing addiction to ripped jeans) brings about a change.

My current obsession:

Today's look is really simple and easy to recreate, and you can certainly opt for a whole pair of jeans or a less distressed pair of jeans for this look.  Quick story on this top.... I bought it a few years ago from Old Navy and had only worn it once when it went missing.  I looked everywhere for it, but it had vanished.  We moved a little over a year ago and while packing, the shirt reappeared.  The End.

Back to the look... I opted to dress up the jeans with this floral button up and thrifted red blazer for a more contemporary feel.  It was a toss up on the shoes, however in the end I decided on the leopard print pumps.

Whelp!  I hope this look inspires you to step outside the box.  And may the rest of your week be a stylish one.  Need a little more distressed denim outfit inspo, I got you.  Check out these looks >>> HERE, HERE & HERE.  Enjoy!

 Mother's Day Mommy Makeover Giveaway

Can I be honest?  I never wanted kids...  I barely wanted to get married.  My life's dream (or goal) was to graduate high school become either an Travel or ER nurse, see the world and just do me.  Yet that dream went out the door when, at 17, I got preggers.  Needless to say I was devastated.  The way I saw it, my world was over.  On the bright side, I was blessed with a cute little girl who, at times, gets on my last nerve.  But she has my heart.

What's So Bad About Kitten Heels?

top atlanta blogger, atlanta personal stylist

When it comes to fashion and style, I like to think that my style stands out a little bit above the rest.  I mean what's not to like about my unique perspective on style (lol)?  It's an expression of me, which it should be.  That's why I tread lightly when it comes to trends.  And if more than 3 or 4 style influencers I follow on social is wearing something I've been eyeing, I won't even attempt it (unless I just can't resist).  It's the petty in me - wink, wink.

Also, if I'm being honest, I love walking into a room and seeing people look me up and down because my outfit is so unique.  The goal is always to stand out in the crowd, not blend in.  This is probably why thrifting will always be my first go-to when it comes to stand out wardrobe pieces.  Plus, I won't have to worry about ending up at some event with the same thing on that so-and-so has on.

A few weeks ago, I asked the poll question on my insta-stories if anybody else besides me were a fan of the kitten heel.  By a land slide, the majority of responses was Heck No!  I can't say that I was shocked.  I mean the kitten heel for years has been considered old fashion and the shoe your grandmother wore on special occasions.  But the kitten heel trend has come back strong (or has it?)

Like most people, I wasn't always a lover of the kitten heel, especially if you're talking about the style of the shoe back in the day.  However, the different style of these two inch heeled shoes now-a-days makes me giddy on the inside.  Take today's footwork for instance.  This little heeled shoe is making a huge statement with the ruffled detailing on the top.  I love that it adds just the right amount of pizazz to this look and they are comfortable.

One thing I will say is, you have to be careful how you style it.  If styled the wrong way your look can quickly go down hill.  My first time wearing these cuties, I decided this faux leather pleated skirt from Shein was the way to go.  I opted for a mix print black and white combo with the polka dot shirt and striped blazer.  The polka dot socks were added because I'm just extra.

I hope to be able to wear these kitten booties again before springtime weather kicks in full time.  What are your thoughts on the kitten heel trend?  Drop a line in the comments and tell me if you're a fan or not.  I've also provided shopping links to a few other kitten heel options to wear during the spring/summer months.

A Simple, Yet Cute Casual Outfit Inspo

 Simple cute casual outfit

Yesterday was the first day of spring and here in Atlanta, it kinda felt like it.  So in celebration of warmer temps on the horizon, I give you today's look.

Before we get into the details of this look, have you noticed anything different with the site?  If you're a frequent visitor, you'll noticed quite a few changes.  (s/o to my web designer Jasmine of Jnicoledidit, she gets my site all the way together.)  So I wanted, no needed to make a few modifications in order to align with my goals for The Style Kläzit.  Although I'm still making a few updates, go ahead and take a look around.  Tell me what you think.  Leave me some feedback in the comments.

Not only does the site have a new look, can you spot another change???  Okay, I'll give you a hint....  I'm not wearing sunglasses - Gasp!!!  So much for the hint, right?  Anywho, sunnies are sorta my security blanket, if you will, to cover up the fact that I don't wear makeup.  Aside from lipstick, I'm completely bare faced behind those shades.  No foundation, no blush, no bronzer - nothing.  I don't have anything against makeup, I just never got into it.  And not to be all braggy, but I don't really need it.  In this pic, I only have on lashes and lipstick.

But whatevs, let's talk about today's simple yet cute casual outfit inspiration.  What I like most about this look is that it's super easy to style.  All I did was layer this olive vest (which is really a dress that was too small for me to button close) over this white shirt dress.  You can go with any number of shoe options, but for this look, I thought these ShoeDazzle 'Apple Platform Oxfords' would give this outfit a little bit of an edge.  Sad news guys, this shoe quickly sold out for obvious reasons and of course I can't find a similar option.  Adding the statement necklace keeps the neckline from looking so plain and boring.  I'm carrying this awesomely cute faux snake print backpack from Shein for the win!

I've worn this dress a number of times, but check out the last three times I've worn it -- HERE, HERE and HERE.

The Easiest Way To Make A Black & White Outfit POP!

The Easiest Way To Style A Black & White Outfit

Ever since 2018 hit, I feel like I've been on a giant roller coaster.  Within these last 2ish months, things have been up and down.  But that's life, right?  Anyways, I'm going to keep on keeping on and so should you.

One of my FAVORITE color combo's of all time is black and white.  What is not to like about these two colors together.  I mean it goes hand in hand like peanut butter & jelly,  mac & cheese or milk & cookies.  Basically you can't go wrong when styling an outfit that's purely black and white.  There's nothing chicer—or easier.

I am totally and utterly in love with this Asos metallic pleated midi skirt that features 3 different colors and textures.  I mean come on, what's not to like!!!  So for this look, I decided to go all black up top.  Wanting the skirt to be the focal point of the look.  My blazer (which you should have in your closet already, it's a closet staple) is thrifted, however, this black blazer from Forever 21 or this black one from Asos gets a thumbs up from me.

Black and white combined is classic and will never go out of style, NEVER!  It can get you (style wise) through any event on your calendar.  This color duo can pretty much match up with anything you put with it.  Most people would pair this look with a black shoe, however, I opted for these fuchsia pink sock booties from JustFab.  By adding a pop of color, it instantly added a little more life to this outfit.  I choose my shoes as the burst of color, but a cute colorful handbag, a dope statement necklace or a piece of your outfit can be your pop.  Another example of how I added a bright color to a look; remember these red boots?

Because the skirt is doing the most, I went with a plain black blouse and accessorized by adding this metallic silver mini backpack.  Speaking of this pleated skirt, you'd better hurry, most of the sizes are gone and it's on sale for less than $50.

Are you a fan of the black and white trend?  If so, how do you typically style it?  Tell me in the comments
